This little elephant is a multiblock lino cut but is a total original in terms of colour and print. It shows my love of history and animals and is based on a Japanese elephant figurine found in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. Japan doesn’t have elephants so this representation was firmly rooted in imagination when it was made in 1680 in the Kakiemon period.
Dimensions
Printed on Snowdon paper with archival oil based inks
